At the 2008 RC Cola and Moon Pie festival in Bell Buckle, TN, just as they have done in years past, some "Olympic" games were played. This contest was the RC Cola Dash. The "Dash" part is a little misleading as this was not a speed contest, but more focused on skill and accuracy.

The Rules: Take an open but full RC Cola can and balance it on your head. If you can make it all the way to the finish line (about 20 feet away) without dropping it (or steadying it with your hand - which would be cheating) you go on to round two. In round two, you stack two RC cans on your head. 4 contestants made it past round two onto round 3 stacking 3 RC cans on their head!

This girl, one of the 4 finalists, could practically dance around with 2 cans on her head. Unfortunately after trying for a while could never get a third to balance at all.

A Cup of Tea Without Sugar

“A man without a mustache is like a cup of tea without sugar”

Week 4 - This is the final growing week in the National Geographic Digital Media Mustache Contest. For better or worse, here's the canvas I have to work with later on this week in crafting a winning mustache (yes, pride, beverages and a couple bucks are at stake).

Here are the official rules of the contest

=========================================

Judging Categories
--------------------------
Four different prizes will be awarded, so plan ahead and set your
personal 'stache strategy to win:

THE TOM SELLECK
Sexy and not afraid of a Hawaiian shirt. The winner
will be well-groomed, with an average mustache body that's not too
flashy but still says "T.C., pick Higgins and me up in the chopper."

THE SAM ELLIOTT
This award recognizes cowboy lushness. The winner
will have a thick, bushy 'stache, at home on the ranch or a cattle
rustle.

THE JOHN WATERS
This award is for creativity. The winner will sport
an unusual shape or style that's aesthetically pleasing.

BEST IN SHOW
This is the best overall mustache, combining all of the
above factors as well as the competitor's overall look, attitude, and
je-ne-sais-quoi.

Rules
-----------------------------
Judges will vote via secret ballot in two rounds. Votes in the first
round determine the four finalists; the majority outcome of the second
round determines the winner. There is no second place. In case of a
tie, a special "'stache-off" vote will determine the winner.

Mustaches must start on the upper lip and can't reconnect below the
lips, or with the sideburns. No non-mustache hair can be on the cheeks
or chin — no soul patches.

You must wear your 'stache the entire judging day, at work and at a
special after-party in a public place (to be announced). Judges must
wear fake mustaches for the duration of the judging and at the
after-party.

=========================================

My strategy is still up in the air for what type of mustache I'll show up with on Friday. If anyone has ay ideas or thoughts, please feel free to help :o).

Other things to look forward to this week:

* Seeing co-workers the hairiest I will ever possibly see them
* "Chops Day" - where hopefully a group of us will start dismembering the beards we're growing in humorous unison.

For those of you who haven't eaten yet or have a strong stomach, you might wanna view this in large format

Not only was this girl a finalist, but was also the winner as she made it one full step with three cans stacked, which no other finalist could do.

She lost control of the two rc cans about a second after this picture was taken

I think this guy should get bonus points for wearing the old school RC T-Shirt!
