Oliver and his pet ended up as 9 of 17 and I got a C+ with a yellow star. But no gold, silver or bronze.

There is poetry in children's games
child photo contest
Participants in the game of Karuta (かるた, from the Portuguese carta, "card") must quickly determine which one out of an array of cards placed in front of them is required and then to grab it before the opponent. Each of the cards contain the last two lines of a tanka, and they must identify which one suits with the verses readen aloud by the conductor. The poems are from the Hyakunin Isshu, an anthology composed by the poet and scholar Fujiwara no Teika at the beginning of XIII century. This set of photos were taken during the karuta contest at the Yasaka shrine on January 3, 2008. Here is the (still growing) slideshow.

7 train photo contest

The images I am submiting for this contest were taken along Roosevelt
Avenue. Because the 7 train is above ground, it covers all the
advertisements of businesses that are on the second floor of the buildings
along Roosevelt Ave., for that reason, almost all businesses that are above
ground advertise on the staircases that lead to them. With a digital camera,
I have documented almost all the staircases going from the 74 St. station to
the 90 St. station under the 7 train.
