One of the best recyclers on earth is a dung beetle. Dung beetles recycle animal dung such as cow manure by burying it. Buried dung helps loosen and nourish the soil. Here are pictures of “rolling” type dung beetles from War Horse National Wildlife Refuge in central Montana.

Chances are this is a male and female dung beetle that has established a pair bond. The male beetle rolled cow manure into a ball and presented it to the female. Now that she has accepted the smelly present, they are busy rolling it to an area where they can either bury it for food for themselves or as a place the female can lay her eggs.
