Valley BBall v Odessa-Montour 8 Jan '10

Some shots from both the JV and Varsity games @NV HS this past Friday evening. The JV squad would lose a closely contested game by 2 points. ( sorry - I forgot to make a note of what tthe score was . . duh! *grin* ) It was a good game though.
Valley's Varsity rolled to a solid 48-29 victory coming out and demonstrating excellent ball handling and control of possession. Their coach, understandable so, got a little annoyed with them passing it around though instead of taking shots on goal. They seemed to get the hint and did start taking shots. Sure enough, the scoreboard started to reflect that.
This game had a frightening moment when Odessa's Matt Kautz (#11 in some of these photo's) crashed to the floor under the goal. Three or four other guys from both teams were fighting for the rebound and were still airborne. One of the Odessa guys came down right on Matt's shoulder / neck and Matt was instantly put into a very scary and frightening situation. Fast forwarding a 10-15 minutes . . . Matt was conscious, talking & joking, feeling and moving -- all really really good signs. I told him "Hey Matt - you realize that your a bit of a Rock Star around here now don't you...? " and he laughed at that and raised his hand to deliver a big "thumbs up" to the (now) loudly applauding crowd in the gym. ( yes - he was taken out on a stretcher with paramedics ) I'm pretty sure that I'm not alone in saying that everyone in NV and the surrounding area wishes for a speedy and full recovery for Matt!!
Snow Folk

Our town is in the midst of a Winterfest celebration. There are many events over a two-week period. On Saturday, our church and its pre-school will walk in the annual Winterfest parade, from the high school, across the bridge, and into Lambertville, New Jersey.
Our pre-school children created these entries to a "snow folk" contest that will soon be judged at the high school. In this photo, they stand in the foyer of the church, just prior to taking the ride to the big snow folk gathering.

Valley's Lady Cardinals fall to Watkins Glen
The JV’s lost in a closely contested, albeight a low scoring affair, 38-32. They actually led this game at one point, but the Seneca’s came back and took it in the end. The Varsity Lady Birds started out strong being pretty competitive and going toe to toe with their counterparts from Watkins Glen until a combination of issues led to a quick, and large lead by WG that Valley was never able to recover from. Valley committed a number of fouls that repeatedly had Seneca shooters at the free throw line – and they took advantage of these opportunities. Conversely Watkins Glen had a shooter or two that really proved lethal to Valley’s chances by hitting a number of 3 point shots that were really quite impressive. The Lady Birds did (noticeably) step up thier game, and aggressiveness, to close the gap in points and make this one more competitive than it initially looked like it was going to be. The score at the end of the evening wound up at 56-43 in Watkins Glen’s favor.
Direct link to photo’s from these games is here (NOTE: I didn’t catch all of the JV game – just the latter half of it)

The above photo (XX6X7992) won first place in the Dallas Morning News "SportsDay High School Click off" contest! I was truly surprised...
The photo was published Tue, 21 Nov 2006 in the Dallas Morning News as the winner (Sports Section, Page 3C).
I wasn't really aware there was a contest. I had just uploaded the photo to Highland Park's "My High School " Sports Page and found out later that the Dallas Morning News was reviewing uploaded photos from all teams in the metroplex for this contest.
As a result of winning, The Dallas Morning News will give ,000 to Highland Park High School for their Prom.
What a great deal !
